Blogger’s Block-a-palooza Block 12
March 3, 2011 | Uncategorized
Welcome, Block-a-paloozers! Are you ready for Block 12? Here we go…
PDF version is available here.
Cutting Instructions:
You will need to cut:
(2) 5 1/4′ square of the white print and yellow swirl print (each)
(8) 2 7/8″ square of the green solid and white print (each)
(1) 2 1/2″ x 6″ rectangle of the orange text print and the multi-stripe print (each)
Flying Geese:
This is my preferred method to make flying geese. You’re probably familiar with it by now, as some of my counterparts use the same method.
Take your 5 1/2″ yellow swirl square and place (2) 2 7/8″ squares diagonally. Draw a line down the center of the squares and sew a 1/4″ seam along each side of the line.
Cut apart on the drawn line and press seams (I press mine open…its a personal choice).
You now have 2 units. Take another 2 7/8″ square and place it on the other corner. Draw a diagonal line. Sew a 1/4″ seam along each side of the drawn line as before.
Cut apart on the drawn line and press seams. (Now would be a good time to trim the dog-ears as well)
You now have 4 nice and tidy flying geese. Repeat with the remaining 5 1/4″ yellow swirl square. When all your flying geese are complete, arrange them in to the 4 diamond blocks like so:
Now you’re going to repeat the process with the 5 1/4″ white print square and 2 7/8″ green solid squares.
These will be pieced in the traditional flying geese formation. Refer to main block photo for placement. (Because I forgot to take a photo. Ooops).
Lastly, the 4-patch block. Easy-peasy. Sew your 2 1/2″ x 6″ strips of the orange text print and the multi-stripe print.
Press seams, and cut (2) 2 1/2″ strips cross-wise.
Place opposing fabrics right sides together. Press seams.
Viola! You are done piecing blocks! Now all you have to do is piece the block in to rows, referring to the main block photo for placement.
Don’t forget to post your completed blocks to the Flickr group!
The next block will be up Monday, March 7th on Tia’s blog. See you there!

Is there a PDF version of these instructions? If not, no worries. I just find it easier to print and follow a PDF than a blog printout.

When you click on the PDF file for downloading, it takes you to a page that says there’s nothing there.
